Wichita Falls, T.X. - Western New Mexico University's men's basketball faced off against the Midwestern State University Mustangs. The Mustangs had a tough game, losing to Midwestern 82-53.
    Western was led by
Matthew Okoye (Sugarland, TX/Stephen F. Austin High School) with 12 points(6-21) and
Donovan Black (Las Cruces, NM/Del Valle High School), who also had 12 points(5-7) and led in rebounds with eight. They were supported by
James McCallum (Long Beach, CA./St. Bernard's High School) with 9 points(3-5).
    In the first half, the Mustangs were shooting 31.0%(9-29) from the field and 14.3%(2-14) beyond the arc. Midwestern was shooting 48.5%(16-33) from the field and 21.4%(3-14) from 3-point range. In the second half, Western fared a little better, shooting 40.0%(12-30) from the field, a good improvement from the first quarter, and 42.9%(3-7) from 3-point range. On the opposing side, the Midwestern Mustangs finished the second half shooting 52.9%(18-34) from the field and 46.7%(7-15) from beyond the arc. Western struggled from the free throw line, shooting 66.7%(6-9), similarly Midwestern shot 57.1%(4-7) from the line. By the end of the game, the Mustangs were not able to bridge Midwestern's lead and lost 82-53.
The Mustangs will be out on the road again this week playing Lubbock Christian University in Lubbock, Texas. They will be tipping off January 11th, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. MDT.
