Loss For the Mustangs in Odessa

Odessa, Texas - The Western New Mexico Mustangs Women's Basketball team carries on their 2024-2025 season in a match against the University of Texas Permian Basin Falcons at Falcon Dome in Odessa, Texas. The WNMU Mustangs would battle to the last second but falling to the Falcons, 46-68. The Mustangs would rise above the Falcons in their shooting era, averaging 41.9% (18-43), while the Falcons were 35.4% (23-65). The Mustangs beat the Falcons in three-pointers, averaging 29.4% (5-17) versus 22.9% (8-35) for the Falcons. The Mustangs battled hard with the Falcons in free throws, with an average of 50.0% (5-10), while the Falcons averaged higher with 82.4% (14-17) rising above the Mustangs.
 
Cieara Dinwiddie (Porter, TX/Porter High School) and Alina Martin would lead the Mustangs with nine points each. Eliza Joynes (Adelaide, South Australia/Henley Sports Academy) and Savannah Wilson (Humble, TX/Kingwood Park High School) played a defensive game, recording five rebounds each for the Mustangs. Eliza Joynes (Adelaide, South Australia/Henley Sports Academy) earned three assists to help the team out. Alina Martin and Kiana Ortiz (Tucson, AZ/Palo Verde High School) had two steals from the Falcon's turnovers.
 
The Falcons make the most of Western New Mexico's 27 turnovers, generating 38 points off those missteps and establishing a strong early lead. Western New Mexico fought hard with eight second-chance points and five fast-break points.
 
The WNMU Mustangs will travel to San Angelo, Texas for a match-up against Angelo State University on Saturday, February 1, 2025, to continue their season. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m. MT. Tune in on FloCollege for the live stream.
