Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Benjamin Roe

Mustangs Left it all on the Court Tonight

Silver City, N.M. - Western New Mexico University's men's basketball took on the Angelo State University Rams. The Mustangs fought well and kept the game within reach but could not seal the deal by the end of the game, falling 63-75.

    Western was led by Matthew Okoye (Sugarland, TX/Stephen F. Austin High School) with 18 points(6-15). He is followed up by Aiden Wall (North Richland Hills, TX/Keller Central High School) with 15 points(5-12) and James McCallum (Long Beach, CA./St. Bernard's High School) with 14 points(5-7), who also led in rebounds with seven.

    In the first half, the Mustangs were shooting 38.71%(12-31) from the field and 25%(3-12) beyond the arc. The Rams were shooting 58.06%(18-31) from the field and 28.57%(2-7) from 3-point range. In the second half, Western did their best to close the gap and find a lead but ended up only shooting 33.33%(11-33) from the field and 21.43%(3-14) from 3-point range. Concurrently, Angelo really came down hard once again, shooting 40.0%(10-25) from the field and 60.0%(3-5) from beyond the arc. Mustangs did well from the free throw line, shooting 78.6%(11-14), while the Rams only shot 60.9%(14-23) from the line. By the end of the game, the Mustangs could not overcome the Rams' lead, and the Rams would go on to win 75-63.

    The Mustangs will be hosting the University of Texas - Permian Basin at home this Sunday. They will be tipping off January 5th, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. MDT.
