Battling Hard the Mustangs Lose to the Dustdevils

Silver City, New Mexico - The Western New Mexico Mustangs Women's Basketball team carries on their 2024-2025 season in a match against Texas A&M International University at Drag's Court in Silver City, New Mexico. The WNMU Mustangs would battle to the end pushing through but falling to the Dustdevils, 52-61. The Mustangs would fall below the Dustdevils in their shooting era, averaging 33.3% (19-57), while the Dustdevils were 36.7% (22-60). The Mustangs lost the Dustdevils in three-pointers, averaging 15.4% (2-13) versus 23.1% (3-13) for the Dustdevils. The Mustangs battled hard with the Dustdevils in free throws, with an average of 72.2 % (13-18), while the Dustdevils averaged lower with 60.9% (14-23) and lost to the Mustangs.
 
Eliza Joynes (Adelaide, South Australia/Henley Sports Academy) would lead the Mustangs with a total of 16 points. Savannah Wilson (Humble, TX/Kingwood Park High School) and Jaelyn Morrison (El Paso, TX/Hanks High School) would average 100% in free throws for the Mustangs. Eliza Joynes (Adelaide, South Australia/Henley Sports Academy) played a defensive game, recording 10 rebounds for the Mustangs. Natalie Magallnes earned four assists to help the team out.
 
The Dustdevils make the most of Western New Mexico's 18 turnovers, generating 16 points off those missteps and establishing a strong early lead. Western New Mexico fought hard with 16 second-chance points and four fast-break points.
 
The WNMU Mustangs will travel to Odessa, Texas for a match-up against the University of Texas Permian Basin on Thursday, January 30, 2025, to continue their season. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. MT. Tune in on FloCollege for the live stream.
