Silver City, New Mexico - The Western New Mexico Mustangs Men's Basketball team carries on their 2024-2025 season in a match against Texas A&M International University at Drag's Court in Silver City, New Mexico. The WNMU Mustangs would battle to the last second but fell to the Dustdevils, 62-65. The Mustangs would rise above the Dustdevils in their shooting era, averaging 43.1% (22-51), while the Dustdevils were 36.2% (21-5)8. The Mustangs beat the Dustdevils in three-pointers, averaging 44.4% (8-18) versus 17.6% (3-17) for the Dustdevils. The Mustangs battled hard with the Dustdevils in free throws, with an average of 47.6% (10-21), while the Dustdevils averaged higher with 74.1% (20-27), rising above the Mustangs.
Matthew Okoye (Sugarland, TX/Stephen F. Austin High School) would lead the Mustangs with a total of 15 points.
Carson Kelly (Chandler, AZ/Chandler High School) would average 100% in free throws for the Mustangs.
Matthew Okoye (Sugarland, TX/Stephen F. Austin High School) played a defensive game, recording nine rebounds for the Mustangs.
James McCallum (Long Beach, CA./St. Bernard's High School) and
Carson Kelly (Chandler, AZ/Chandler High School) earned four assists to help the team out.
Aiden Wall (North Richland Hills, TX/Keller Central High School) and
Matthew Okoye (Sugarland, TX/Stephen F. Austin High School) had three steals from the Dustdevil's turnovers.
The Dustdevils make the most of Western New Mexico's 15 turnovers, generating 14 points off those missteps and establishing a strong early lead. Western New Mexico fought hard with eight second-chance points and nine fast-break points.
