Taking It Home for the Win

Silver City, New Mexico - The Western New Mexico Mustangs Women's Basketball team carries on their 2024-2025 season in a match against Texas A&M University – Kingsville at Drag's Court in Silver City, New Mexico. The WNMU Mustangs would battle to the end pushing through and gaining the win, 59-53. The Mustangs would rise above the Javelinas in their shooting era, averaging 37.5% (21-56), while the Javelinas were 36.5% (19-52). The Mustangs beat the Javelinas in three-pointers, averaging 41.7% (5-12) versus 32.1% (9-28) for the Javelinas. The Mustangs battled hard with the Javelinas in free throws, with an average of 75.0 % (12-16), while the Javelinas averaged the same 75.0% (6-8), keeping up with the Mustangs.
 
Jaelyn Morrison (El Paso, TX/Hanks High School) would lead the Mustangs with a total of 21 points. Natalie Magallnes and Ciera Dinwiddie would average 100% in free throws for the Mustangs. Ciera Dinwiddie played a defensive game, recording eight rebounds for the Mustangs. Alina Martin and Kiana Ortiz (Tucson, AZ/Palo Verde High School) earned three assists to help the team out.
 
The Javelinas make the most of Western New Mexico's 19 turnovers, generating 21 points off those missteps and establishing a strong early lead. Western New Mexico fought hard with 16 second-chance points and eight fast-break points.
 
The WNMU Mustangs will stay home in Silver City, New Mexico for a match-up against Texas A&M International on Saturday, January 25, 2025, to continue their season. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m. MT. Tune in on FloCollege for the live stream.
