Mustangs Rally Late but Can't Steal the Win

Lubbock, Texas - The Western New Mexico Mustangs Women's Basketball team carries on their 2024-2025 season in a match against the Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaps at Rip Griffin Center in Lubbock, Texas. The WNMU Mustangs would battle in the second half to try and come back but would lose to the LCU Lady Chaps 42-68. The Mustangs would rise above the Lady Chaps in their shooting era, averaging 38.35% (18-47), while the Lady Chaps were 35.4% (23-65). The Lady Chaps averaged better than the Mustangs in three-pointers, averaging 37.5% (12-32) versus 15.4% (2-13) for the Mustangs. The Mustangs battled hard with the Lady Chaps in free throws, with an average of 50.0% (4-8), but the Lady Chaps still came out on top with an average of 76.9% (10-13).
 
Eliza Joynes (Adelaide, South Australia/Henley Sports Academy) would lead the Mustangs with a total of 14 points. Natalie Magallnes and Naomi Kimble (Animas, NM/Animas High School) would average 100% in free throws for the Mustangs. Eliza Joynes (Adelaide, South Australia/Henley Sports Academy) played a defensive game, recording 11 rebounds for the Mustangs. Eliza Joynes (Adelaide, South Australia/Henley Sports Academy) would record four blocks for the Mustangs, while Kiana earned five assists.
 
The Lady Chaps make the most of Western New Mexico's 21 turnovers, generating 11 points off those missteps and establishing a strong early lead. Western New Mexico fought hard with two second-chance points.
