ELLENSBURG, WASH. – The WNMU Mustangs faced a tough challenge Saturday night, traveling to the Pacific Northwest to take on the #9 ranked Central Washington Wildcats, the LSC preseason favorite. The Mustangs fought hard but ultimately fell 36-0.
The Mustangs' offense struggled against a stout Wildcat defense, managing 91 total yards on 40 plays. Quarterback
Josh Magana (Dinuba, CA/Dinuba High School) completed 13 of 21 passes for 82 yards but was sacked four times.
Anthony Flores (Casa Grande, AZ/Casa Grande Union High School) led the Mustang receivers with four catches for 29 yards, while
Edwin LaCrosse (Los Alamitos, CA/Los Alamitos High School) contributed two receptions for 26 yards.
Jamon Chambers (Federal Way, WA/Stadium High School) anchored the rushing attack with 11 carries for 36 yards.
On defense,
Cole Lalama (Queen Creek, AZ/Queen Creek High School) led the Mustangs, recording eight total tackles, including four solo.
Osvaldo Raigosa (Whittier, CA/La Serna High School, Gaberilino High School) also stood out with seven tackles (six solo). The defense secured two takeaways, both fumble recoveries, with
Dominic Garcia (Inland Empire, CA/) recovering one of them.
The Mustangs will look to bounce back next Saturday, October 5, 2024, when they host Western Oregon for Homecoming at 2 p.m. MT.
