SILVER CITY, N.M.- The Western New Mexico football team hosted Western Oregon for Homecoming Saturday afternoon. The Wolves would spoil the festivities, beating the Mustangs by a final score of 34-10.
WNMU managed to put up 298 total yards of offense, with quarterback
Josh Magana (Dinuba, CA/Dinuba High School) completing 24 of 46 passes for 258 yards, though he threw one interception and was sacked six times. Despite the pressure, Magana had a few notable connections, including a 52-yard pass to
Derrick Sailor (Glendale, AZ/Copper Canyon High School), who finished with 69 receiving yards on two catches.
Deuce Zimmerman (Anchorage, AK/East Anchorage High School) finished with 5 receptions for 63 yards and
Anthony Flores (Casa Grande, AZ/Casa Grande Union High School) contributed 7 receptions for 58 yards).
Jamon Chambers (Federal Way, WA/Stadium High School) led the ground game with 32 yards on 10 carries, but WNMU's only touchdown on the day came from
Gabriel Levy (Tucson, AZ/Cienega High School), who added seven yards on three carries.
On defense, WNMU was led by
Ruben Gamboa (Calabasas, CA/Sierra Canyon High School), who recorded nine total tackles.
Clayton Zentner (Corona, CA/Norco High School) added eight tackles, including one tackle for loss, and
Rene Holguin (El Paso, TX/Americas High School) contributed seven tackles with a tackle for loss as well.
Zach Gordon (Lillington, NC/Rosewood High School) had a mixed day in the kicking game, missing a 29-yard field goal in the second quarter but converting a 23-yard field goal in the third. He also made 1-of-1 extra points, accounting for four of WNMU's 10 total points.
