Day Two for Mustang Volleyball at the Mountaineer Volleyball Classic

Gunnison, Colorado - The 2024 Volleyball season continued today for the Western New Mexico Mustangs. They would finish off the Mountaineer Volleyball Classic with a total of four matches in Gunnison, Colorado. The Mustangs would battle tough with each of the sets but would ultimately fall 1-3 against Academy of Art, 2-3 against Western Colorado, 1-3 against Washburn, and bounce back to win 3-1 against Fort Lewis.
 
Washburn:

Jazmyne Walker (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy High School) lead the offense for the Mustangs with 11 kills. Eimaya Medina (Las Cruces, NM/Centennial High School) would spread the ball around the court nicely with 25 assists. Eimaya Medina (Las Cruces, NM/Centennial High School) would lead the with two service aces, while Jazmyne Walker (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy High School), Chase Kallevig (Louisburg, KS/Louisburg High School), Jéssica Sales, and Logan Dodge (Liberal, KS/Liberal Senior High School) would each get one Service Ace as well.

The back row of the Mustangs had a busy game as Chase Kallevig (Louisburg, KS/Louisburg High School)  would lead the team with 16 digs. Jade Rampton (Nelson, New Zealand/Shanghai American School) would record one block of her own, while Jazmyne Walker (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy High School) and Jade Rampton (Nelson, New Zealand/Shanghai American School) would both have two block assists each.  

Set 1
The Mustangs and Ichabods would continue to keep a close gap. The Ichabods will stay in the lead the whole set and would shut the Mustangs down 25-12 winning the first set.
 
Ichabods 1, Mustangs 0.
 
Set 2

In set two, the Urban Knights and Mustangs go neck and neck tying it off at 8-8. The Mustangs would soon fall back to the Ichabods and lose the second set 25-19.
 
Ichabods 2, Mustangs 0.

Set 3 

The Mustangs would start off strong and battle to stay in the lead having a 17-14 gap against the Ichabods. They continue to stay on top the rest of the set and win 23-25.
 
Ichabods 2, Mustangs 1.

Set 4

The Ichabods and Mustangs go back and forth of who is on top, officially tying it at 17-17. The Mustangs try to make a comeback, but unfortunately drop the ball losing the set 25-21

Fort Lewis:
 

Jazmyne Walker (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy High School) would be the Mustangs leader on offense for the eighth straight match with 15 kills. Eimaya Medina (Las Cruces, NM/Centennial High School) dished out 19 assists during the game against Western Colorado.
 
Lilouann Bechec (Cannes, France) would be covering every spot on the floor as well tonight for the Mustangs with 22 digs. Jéssica Sales and Maria Osorio (Pereira, Colombia/Calasanz Pereira) would do their best and record four block assists each.
 
Set 1
Set one would start with the Mustangs and the Skyhawks going neck and neck to tie it at 10-10. The Skyhawks would soon push through and get ahead 18-12. The Mustangs will battle back and tie the Skyhawks at 24-24. Soon the Mustangs gain the lead and win the set 26-24.
 
Skyhawks 0, Mustangs 1.
 
Set 2

The Mustangs would gain a lead with a four point run at 5-1. With the Skyhawks coming back, they tie is off at 24-24. Unlike the last set, the Skyhawks would pull ahead and win the set 26-24.
 
Skyhawks 1, Mustangs 1.
 
Set 3

The Mustangs get a lead of 3-0. The Skyhawks will come back to tie it at 4-4. Soon the Mustangs stay in the lead the rest of the set and win 25-17.

Set 4

The Mustangs and Skyhawks will continue to go back and forth until reaching a tie at 23-23. The Mustangs then pull ahead and gain the match win with extra points of 26-24.

The Mustangs completed their second day at the Mountaineer Volleyball Classic 1-1. They will stay focused and continue to work hard in preparation for their next tournament on September 19, 2024 LSC Crossover.
