Harry O'Callaghan Named Head Coach of WNMU Men's and Women's Golf Programs

Silver City, N.M. – Western New Mexico University Director of Athletics, Scott Noble, has announced Harry O'Callaghan as the new Head Men's and Women's Golf Coach.

"We were very fortunate to have one of our own leading our men's and women's golf programs," said Noble. "Watching Harry develop over his career from student-athlete and up the coaching ladder, I knew we had a good one. His experience at our institution, the LSC, and the NCAA DII level has certainly given him the knowledge and confidence to be successful, and our student-athletes respect and support him."

O'Callaghan started off his WNMU life with a four-year career as a player and two years as a Graduate Assistant. During his athletic career, O'Callaghan maintained a near-perfect GPA, and gained many honors including his induction into the WNMU student Hall of Fame and a three-time GCAA Academic All-American. In 2023, O'Callaghan was named WNMU's first full time Assistant Golf Coach.

"I am delighted to become the new Head Men's and Women's golf coach for the WNMU Mustangs," said the newly appointed coach. "I want to thank President Shephard for affording me this opportunity and his ongoing support of WNMU athletics. I'd like to thank our human resources team, headed by Kelley Riddle, for their tireless work in helping to make this happen. I'd like to thank our athletic director Scott Noble and my supervisor Matt Enriquez for believing in me as I take this step up and I believe they will guide me in being successful day in and day out. I'd like to thank my family (Dermot, Fiona, Scott and Sally) for their constant support in all that I do."

O'Callaghan takes over for mentor and retiring WNMU Director of Golf, Kent Beatty, who led Mustangs Men's and Women's Golf for 27 years.

"Most of all I want to thank my mentor, boss, and friend Coach Kent Beatty for everything he has done for me so far as a person and coach." O'Callaghan added. "His incredible work at the head of these two fantastic programs over the last 27 years is what allows me to be in this position. Coach Beatty leaves behind an incredible legacy that I am very proud to be a part of as a player and assistant coach. I believe I have a playbook that works as evidenced by the brilliant seasons both men's and women's programs had last season in the classroom and on the golf course. It is now time to keep that momentum rolling into 2024/25 and beyond. Go Mustangs!"
