WICHITA, TX – WNMU Softball traveled to Wichita this week to face Midwestern State in a conference series. WNMU's defense would keep things tight in both games but would fall in game one, 2-4, after a last inning comeback was cut short. Midwestern State also took game two over WNMU 2-3.
GAME 1:
The game's first two innings went scoreless for both teams.
The third inning would test WNMU as MSU hit two deep flyballs, both over centerfield wall, allowing Midwestern to cross home plate 4 times.
Both teams would again go scoreless the following three innings.
In the seventh inning, WNMU would attempt their comeback attempt, after an Ana Armijo (Albuquerque, NM/Volcano Vista HS) walk and Kamerynn Cordova (Fowler, CA/Fowler HS) hit by pitch, Ramona Fossum (Mescalero, NM/Mescalero Apache HS) would hit a deep single which was enough for A. Armijo to reach home. A throwing error off of Laryssa Morales' (Vail, AZ/Cienega High School) bat would bring in K. Cordova, giving the final score of 2-4.
K. Cordova started WNMU off in the circle and picked up a strikeout within the first two innings in 13 AB attempts.

GAME 2:
After a scoreless first inning for both teams, WNMU would get the offense started with a K. Cordova lead off triple. Cordova would score the next at bat on a R. Fossum sacrifice fly across to center. Later in the inning would see Kaylee Hickman (Cloudcroft, NM/Cloudcroft High School) reach second on a double hit to left. The next at bat, A. Armijo would drive in K. Hickman with a single to right.
Midwestern State would bring one run across in their half of the third inning and two more in the bottom of the sixth, ending the game with a final of 2-3.
Labraida Tenorio (Rio Rancho, NM/Rio Rancho HS) started in the circle for the Mustangs, finishing with 4 SOs in 5 solid innings.

WNMU will close out the series over MSU tomorrow at 11am MST before a weekday series against UTPB starting with a double-header on Tuesday April 9th. Game one is scheduled for a 1pm MST
