SILVER CITY, NM – WNMU Softball faced Texas Women's University for games one and two of their final home series in 2024 at The Yard. The Mustangs would use some late inning power in game 1 to get the victory over TWU 2-1. TWU would take game two 12-2.
GAME 1:
The Mustangs and Pioneers went scoreless in the first two innings. TWU would break the tie at the top of the third with a HR over Left field.
In the bottom of the sixth with one out, Ramona Fossum (Mescalero, NM/Mescalero Apache HS) would tie the ball game with a deep hit over Center Field to give the Mustangs another fighting chance. One batter later, Kamerynn Cordova (Fowler, CA/Fowler HS) would put the Mustangs on top with a deep solo homer to right center.
K. Cordova would dominate in the circle pitching a complete game with 7 strikeouts.

GAME 2:
TWU was first on the scoreboard in the top of the first scoring in the top of the first.
WNMU would answer back in the bottom half of the inning as R. Fossum would hit her second home run of the series, to tie the game 1-1.
The Pioneers would plate two runs in the second inning to take the lead 3-1.
The top of the fourth inning would see TWU extend their lead by another eight, making the score 11-1. TWU would plate their final run of the ball game in the top of the fifth making the score 12-1.
In the bottom of the 5th inning with two outs, Kaylee Hickman (Cloudcroft, NM/Cloudcroft High School) rallied the crowd with a double to left field. A R. Fossum single to center field would bring in K. Hickman.
