ODESSA, Texas - The Western New Mexico University Softball Team finished up a three-game road trip against the Falcons of UTPB. After dropping both games yesterday, the Mustangs would come out on top 7-3 thanks to a hot first inning.

Kamerynn Cordova (Fowler, CA/Fowler HS) would get the start today for the Mustangs, and the win going 5.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB and 5 Ks. Emily Maddux (Douglas, AZ/Douglas High School) would earn the save with a line of 1.1 IP, 1 H, 2 BB and 3 Ks.

WNMU would break this one wide open in the first inning with a five run explosion. Kaylee Hickman (Cloudcroft, NM/Cloudcroft High School) kicked things off with a double. With Hickman and Ramona Fossum (Mescalero, NM/Mescalero Apache HS) on base, Kamerynn Cordova (Fowler, CA/Fowler HS) would single to send both girls home, 2-0 Mustangs. Hannah Martinez (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad HS) would follow up with a single, bringing home Jenna Peters (Lake Elsinore, CA/Temescal Canyon HS), 3-0. Cordova would trot on home thanks to an error by the shortstop for another Mustang run, 4-0. The inning would be capped off with Nichole Armijo (Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain HS) grounding into fielder's choice to send Martinez across the plate, 5-0.

The Mustangs would tack on another run in the fourth inning thanks to a double from Peters, scoring Reya Adkins (Benson, AZ/ASU Digital Prep), 6-0.

UTPB finally got on the board in the fifth inning with a double from Kelsey Valo, 6-1.

The Mustang's scoring stopped in the sixth when a ground ball from Peter brought in Hickman, 7-1.

Stephanie Jimenez would send a two-run shot deep in the bottom of the sixth for the Falcons, 7-3.

Laila Vasquez got the Falcon start, going 0.0 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 3 ER and 1 BB. Destini Trahan earned the loss, 7.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 6 BB and 5 Ks,

The Mustangs will return to The Yard on April 19th to face nationally ranked UT Tyler at 2:00 PM MT.
