SILVER CITY, NM – The Mustangs made their way back to Silver City, NM this week as they took on Texas A&M International on their home turf. The Mustangs would get the last laugh in Game 1 as they pulled away with the victory 8-6. Although they kept TAMIU just 2 runs up front, they would go on to lose the battle in Game Two 8-10.
GAME 1:
Both teams faced solid defense as neither one of them could seem to earn a run in the first 3 innings. The Dustdevils tacked on the first score of the game in the top of the fourth as they took a 4-0 lead over WNMU. The Mustangs answered right back by scoring 5 of their own and gaining the lead margin for the first time in the game.
The bats were hot as 7 of the Mustangs made contact within the inning, including a 2 run home run shot from Ramona Fossum (Mescalero, NM/Mescalero Apache HS), 1 run double from Kennedy Jarrard (Carlsbad, CA/Carlsbad HS), and a 1 run triple for Laryssa Morales (Vail, AZ/Cienega High School).
WNMU gave up a late HR early in the 6th inning, but once again conquered the plate at the first sight they had and scored three more runs in the bottom. Both Kaylee Hickman (Cloudcroft, NM/Cloudcroft High School) and Hannah Martinez (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad HS) shared a pair of HRs to help get Mustangs back on top.
The 6th inning was too much for the Dustdevils to handle as the Mustangs went on to take Game 1.
Kamerynn Cordova (Fowler, CA/Fowler HS) pitched first for the Mustangs today as she picked up 4 SOs, and 6.0 IP as she finished as the winning pitcher for WNMU.

GAME 2:
The Mustangs took the first blow in the game as A. Armijo sailed a solo shot over Left Field wall to start for the team.
The Mustangs struggled in the next two innings as they committed a few key errors to give the Dustdevils a 3 run lead. The team found their strength in the bottom of the 3rd as they had several runners round the bags and touch home plate (4).
Both Jenna Peters (Lake Elsinore, CA/Temescal Canyon HS) and Ramona Fossum (Mescalero, NM/Mescalero Apache HS) sent deep fly balls over the fence to put the Mustangs back on top.
The 5th inning did not seem to go in the Mustangs favor as the team allowed the Dustdevils to gain another 6 runs in the game. Although only 2 batters picked up forced walks, TAMIU found contact on almost every at bat attempt in the inning.
The Mustangs dug once more in the bottom of the 5th, trying desperately to stay within a short distance from the Dustdevils. Smart base running and a few good swings gave the Mustangs another fighting chance as they scored 3 runs that inning.
Although WNMU prevented TAMIU from scoring anymore in the game, they were held from earning any more runs themselves and ultimately fell in the end.
The Mustangs had 3 pitchers on the mound in Game 2 as they picked up 7 SOs total in 40 AB attempts.
