CAMERON, OK – The Western New Mexico University women's basketball team traveled to Oklahoma this week to face the Aggies Cameron University for the second time this season. Mustangs fell to the Aggies 68-54.
Tonight's shooting performer was
Jade Goynes (Fort Worth, TX/North Crowley High School), who once again cracked her season high in scoring at 18 points. Perfect from the charity stripe, she also came off the floor with 3 steals and a defensive rebound showing her resiliency on both sides of the floor.
Alongside Goynes,
Larissa Laborin (Las Cruces, New Mexico/Centennial High School) also had a good showing in this matchup all around. She added 11 points on 50% shooting splits. Laborin also finished with four rebounds, one assist, and a steal.
Defensively, the Mustangs combined for nine steals, 30 grabbed boards, and a dazzling block from
Brooke Rodgers (Phoenix, Arizona/Cactus Shadows High School). While they may have prevented the Aggies from scoring on multiple occasions, they also combined for 17 turnovers.
They allowed Cameron to score five fast break points and four second chance points. This gave Cameron nearly a ten point lead to close out on the Mustangs.
While WNMU may have hit a dry spell in the first half of the game, they went toe-to-toe in the second half and finished with the exact same amount of points in both of the final two quarters as Cameron. This allowed Cameron to take the edge over WNMU in the end.
WNMU will battle against Midwestern State this Saturday at 12:00 PM MT, looking avenge their loss from earlier this season on Drag's Court.
