LAWTON, Oklahoma– The Western New Mexico University Men's Basketball team kicked off a two-game road trip at Aggie Gym against the Aggies of Cameron. The Mustangs fell 108-91.
Allen Fordham (Far Rockaway, NY/Queens High School For Technology) earned is 1,000 collegiate point in the loss.
This puts the Mustangs at 3-17 (1-14).
Four Mustangs managed double-digits on the Aggies. Leading the Mustangs was
Jordan Williams (Pensacola, FL/J. M. Tate High School) with a season-high 22 points.
Cortaviaus Seales (Rock Island, IL/North Scott High School) contributed 21 points.
Allen Fordham (Far Rockaway, NY/Queens High School For Technology) had 13 and
LaMarqus Merchant Jr. (Utica, NY/Utica Academy of Science) added 12.
Rebounding and points in the paint would trouble the Mustangs on the night. The Aggies secured 37 rebounds to only 20 from the Mustangs. WNMU was outscored in the paint 50-38.
Mustangs shot 18-34 (52%) from the field and 6-11 (54%) from deep in the first half. WNMU finished the game shooting 30-64 (46%) and 8-18 (44%) from three. Cameron would shoot 39-65 (60%) from the field and 9-21 (42%) from behind the arc for the game.
At the charity stripe WNMU went 23-27 (85%) and Cameron shot 21-29 (72%).
On the boards,
Aaron Miller (Queens Village, NY/Benjamin Cardozo High School) and
Tanner Vogel (Stratham, Australia/Georgiana Molloy Anglican School) each grabbed five rebounds. Merchant Jr. dished six assists.
In the defensive department, Merchant Jr had four steals.
The Mustangs began the first half by trading baskets with the Aggies. At the 14 minute mark, the Aggies would open an 11-point lead. The Mustangs ended the half trailing by single digits, 55-47.
In the second half the Mustangs cut the lead to seven points before the Aggies caught fire. Cameron quickly extended their lead to 22 points, hold a 17-22 point advantage for most of the second half. WNMU tried to make a push late but would be unsuccessful, falling 108-91.
Lavell Brodnex scored 22 points on the Mustangs. Reggie Prudhomme added 15.
