PORTALES, NM – The WNMU Mustangs Women's Basketball took the floor against the Greyhounds of ENMU Thursday evening in Portales, NM. The night would provide a physical and intense matchup that wasn't decide until late in the fourth quarter, with ENMU edging WNMU 45-51.
WNMU played well throughout the first Quarter, taking an early lead over the Greyhounds as they shot 50% on FG attempts within the paint. Leading the Mustangs on the night was Senior Sydney Wright (Houston, Texas/Henley High School), who hit double figures (12 Points, as well as two assists, one defensive board, and one steal.
Brooke Rodgers (Phoenix, Arizona/Cactus Shadows High School) added 7 points for WNMU and led the team defensively with 7 defensive rebounds and 1 block.
The Mustangs started off the game strong, outsourcing the Greyhounds by 1 point in each of the first and second quarters to take a 2 point lead at the half 19-17. A sluggish third quarter by the Mustangs, resulting in being outscored 14-4, would prove to be too much to overcome, as the fourth quarter would have ENMU outsourcing the Mustangs by only 1 point, 18-17.
The Mustangs will return back to Silver City tonight as they prepare to face the Greyhound once more on Saturday at noon for Senior Day. This will wrap up the Mustangs 2024 basketball season
