SILVER CITY, NM – It took until the final minutes of the game, but the Mustangs were able to hold strong against the battling Oklahoma Christian University team to defend Drags Court 72-66.
The Mustangs started off strong in the first quarter, out scoring the Eagles 21-19. WNMU also shot 14% higher in the first quarter than Oklahoma Christian (47%-33%).
Leading the Mustangs in scoring today was Diamond Moore (Colorado Springs, CO/Harrison High School), who had a phenomenal performance in the paint, scoring 19 points and picked up 8 rebounds (1 offensive and 7 defensive). Both Sydney Wright (Houston, Texas/Henley High School) and Milan Tuttle (Oakland, California/Heritage High School) had 5 assists to lead the team in passing stats.
" I'm very proud of the team getting a much needed win today." said Head Coach Josh Pace. "Everybody contributed and gave positive productivity with their minutes."
After leading by nine points at the half, the Mustangs would be outscored by six in the third quarter. The Eagles would start the fourth quarter with momentum and take their first lead over the Mustangs, timely defensive rebounds in the closing minutes of the game by Moore would propel the Mustangs to the victory.
The Mustangs have one final opponent this season as they travel to Portales, NM and take on Eastern New Mexico University in Greyhound Arena this upcoming Thursday at 5PM MT. before finishing off the season at home on Drags Court against those same Greyhounds Sat, March 2nd at 12PM CT/11MT
