Mustangs Load Bases Late in Second Game.

KINGSVILLE, TX – Mustangs continued their season this week by facing TAMU Kingsville on the road. The Javelinas took Game 1 from the Mustangs 1-4. Mustangs also fell in Game 2 afterwards 2-5.

GAME 1:

The Mustangs, scoreless in the first inning, gave up 2 runs to the Javelinas in the bottom of the inning. WNMU remained scoreless until the 5th inning when Adlai Alvidrez (El Paso, TX/Americas HS) singled deep into right field to bring in Hannah Martinez (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad HS).

WNMU was also outplayed in the 6th inning as TAMUK crossed the plate two more times.

The Mustangs were held to 6 total hits and struckout 12 times AB.

Kiya was this game's starting pitcher for the Mustangs, only allowing 2 hits and 2 ERs.

Mustangs Notable Hitters Included:

Adlai Alvidrez (El Paso, TX/Americas HS), 2-for-3. (1 RBI)

Hannah Martinez (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad HS), 2-for-3. (1 run)

Javelinas Notable Hitters Included:

Ruiz, 2-for-3

Carr, 1-for-2.

GAME 2:

Though the Mustangs fell in Game 2 as well, the team seemed much more focused as they reached the first base bag seven more times than the first game.

After giving the Javelinas a late lead in the 3rd inning, they battled back in the following AB and had two Mustangs touch home plate.

The game's momentum was carried and revealed in the top of the 5th inning when the Mustangs loaded the bases with 0 outs. Though a few tragic errors by TAMUK looked hopeful for WNMU, they could not find a way to reach another runner across home plate. The Javelinas would sail a deep flyball over the left field wall and double in another runner in the bottom of the 6th.

Madison Kloepper (Llano, TX/Llano HS) stepped into the pitching circle first for WNMU as she finished with 1 SO and only gave up 4 hits.

Mustangs Notable Hitters Included:

Jenna Peters (Lake Elsinore, CA/Temescal Canyon HS), 3-for-3. (1 run)

Ramona Fossum (Mescalero, NM/Mescalero Apache HS), 2-for-3. (1 RBI)

Javelinas Notable Hitters Included:

Ortiz, 2-for-3.

Mosqueda, 3-for-3.

This is the conclusion of Day 1 against the TAMUK Javelinas. Mustangs will resume against TAMUK tomorrow at 11AM MT.
