Eagles Outlast Mustangs In Overtime

SILVER CITY, N.M.– The Western New Mexico University Men's Basketball team welcomed the Eagles of Oklahoma Christian to Drag's Court on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles took down the Mustangs 86-79 in overtime.
 
This puts the Mustangs at 4-21 (2-18).
 
Four Mustangs managed double digits on the Eagles.  Cortaviaus Seales (Rock Island, IL/North Scott High School) lead the way with with 21 points and eight rebounds. Aaron Miller (Queens Village, NY/Benjamin Cardozo High School) contributed 17 points. Jordan Williams (Pensacola, FL/J. M. Tate High School) had 14 points and Donovan Black (Las Cruces, NM/Del Valle High School) added 10.
 
Rebounding would trouble the Mustangs. The Eagles out-rebounded the Mustangs 46-39, leading to 17 second chance points for the Eagles, compared to only 8 by the Mustangs.
 
Mustangs shot 15-35 (42%) from the field and 2-10 (20%) from deep in the first half. WNMU finished the game shooting 29-78 (37%) and 5-25 (20%) from three. OCU would shoot 28-70 (40%) from the field and 7-18 (38%) from behind the arc for the game.
 
At the charity stripe WNMU went 16-26 (61%) and LCU shot 23-36 (63%).

On the boards, Seales has eight rebounds and Black added seven. Seales dished four assists. 

In the defensive department, Seales Jr had two steals and Black had three blocks.
 
The Mustangs began the first half by trading buckets with the Eagles, trailing by four at the first media timeout. OCU would get hot from their and lead by as many as 17-points in the first half. WNMU closed the defecit to five points going into the break, 45-40. 

In the second half the Mustangs got rolling early, with a jumper from Seales for a 48-47 lead early. The Mustang lead would grow to as many as seven in the second half. With four seconds to go, the Eagles' Hunter Staten stepped to the line and tied the game up at 73.

OCU began overtime with a 6-0 run for a 79-73 lead on the Mustangs. WNMU tried to claw back, but would be unsuccessful, going down 86-79.
 
Moun'tae Edmundson scored 21 points on the Mustangs. Bryce Kennedy added 13 as well.
