SILVER CITY, NM – UAFS Lions and WNMU Mustangs competed against one another today on Drags Court. Though the Mustangs kept the game close until the final buzzer, UAFS would take the win in the end 59-55.
Two Mustangs that shined overall in this matchup were Sydney Wright (Houston, Texas/Henley High School) and Milan Tuttle (Oakland, California/Heritage High School), who share the front court with one other. Wright finished with 14 points, 4 defensive boards, 3 assists, and a steal. She also made both of her attempted FTs. Tuttle, who was this game's leading scorer, had 17 points individually, along with 2 defensive boards, 3 assists, and a steal. She shot 66% on FGs, including 4-7 from deep.
Alina Simon (Killeen, TX/Ellison High School) was the glass cleaner today as she came away with 4 offensive boards and 4 defensive boards. She also managed to pick up a block and a steal for the Mustangs.
Though the Mustangs looked exceptionally well on defense with 33 total rebounds and 7 steals, turnovers was this game's factor as WNMU picked up 16 in total. They also made 13% less from the Charity Stripe than UAFS.
The Lion's leading scorer was Riley Hayes, who gave UAFS 20 points and shot 3-7 from the arc.
WNMU Mustangs will finish this week on Drags Court as they look to take on Oklahoma Christian this Saturday at noon, MT.
