A. Armijo Three Run Homer Ties Game in Seventh. Fossum Walkoff Single Gives Mustangs Series Win Over Rattlers.

SILVER CITY, NM – The Mustangs entered their second day against St. Mary's at the Yard. An Unexpected turn in the final inning changed the outcome of the game completely to give WNMU the final dub over the Rattlers, 6-5.


GAME 3:

WNMU had another rough beginning as the Rattlers took the lead early in the first inning. After an error in the second and a deep single hit by Hannah Martinez (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad HS), the Mustangs found themselves tied once again with the Rattlers.

St. Mary's hit two doubles following that inning to take the lead over the Mustangs again, and their base running allowed them to bring home one more run in the 5th inning.

Bottom of the 7th with two strikes and 2 outs, Ana Armijo (Albuquerque, NM/Volcano Vista HS) had a miraculous hit deep over right field wall to tie the game as she brought in 3 runs to save the Mustangs. 

Jenna Peter's took 4 balls to put the winning run in scoring position. Mona Fossum stepped up to the plate one last time and reached 1st base on an error. Hickman rounded third and crossed home plate to give the Mustangs the series win over the Rattlers.

Besides A. Armijo's Homer, Hannah Martinez (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad HS) found herself hot off the bat today as she went 2 for 3 AB.

Kamerynn Cordova (Fowler, CA/Fowler HS) started on the Mound for the second time this series and finished five strong innings. Madison Kloepper (Llano, TX/Llano HS) closed the game as the winning pitcher for the Mustangs as she finished with 2 SOs and 0 ERs.

Ana Armijo (Albuquerque, NM/Volcano Vista HS), 1-for-3. (1 HR)

Ramona Fossum (Mescalero, NM/Mescalero Apache HS), 1-for-4. (Winning RBI)

Hannah Martinez (Carlsbad, NM/Carlsbad HS), 2-for-3.

Madeline Bleak (Mesa, AZ/Mountain View HS), 1-for-1.

Rattlers Notable Hitters Included:

R. Reyes, 1-for-3.

Dela Rosa, 1-for-3.

This is the conclusion of the 1st Conference series for the Mustangs. WNMU will remain in Silver City this following week to take on New Mexico rival ENMU Greyhounds on Tues, 1PM.
