Box Score Austin, Texas - Western New Mexico University's men's basketball team faced off against the St. Edward's University Hilltoppers. The Mustangs kept the game within reach in the first half, but after an impressive second half performance by the Hilltoppers.
The Mustangs were led by
Carson Kelly (Chandler, AZ/Chandler High School) with 11 points, who was supported by
Aiden Wall (North Richland Hills, TX/Keller Central High School), with 10 points, and
Nathan Jones (Leicester, United Kingdom/), with 9 points.
Jalen Williams (Hayward, CA/Shadow Mountain High School) led in rebounds with 7, with 3 offensive and 4 defensive.
In the first half, the Mustangs took St. Ed's to task and kept the game within reach. Western was shooting 39.4% from the field and 23.1% from 3-point range, while St. Edward's shot 58.3% from the field and 72.2% beyond the arc in the first half. In the second half, the Mustangs did their best but only managed 40% from the field and 20% from 3-point range, meanwhile the Hilltoppers were 57.1% on shooting with an average of 58.3% beyond the arc. Western averaged 57.1% from the free-throw line on the day, on the other side St. Ed's shot 72.2% from the FT line. Unfortunately the Mustangs couldn't find the momentum they needed. The Hilltoppers went on to win the game 96-58.
The Mustangs will be back home Wednesday, taking on the University of the Southwest (N.M.) Mustangs. They will be tipping off December 11th, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. MDT.
