First Home Game of the Season for the Mustangs

Silver City, New Mexico - The Western New Mexico Mustangs Women's Basketball team continues their early 2024-2025 season in a battle of their first home game at Drag's Court in Silver City, New Mexico, against the University of Texas at Tyler Patriots. The Western New Mexico Mustangs would battle hard, putting up a fight until the end, but ultimately unable to finish the game on top, falling (53-88). The Mustangs would fall to the Patriots in their shooting era, averaging 33.9% (19-56), while the Patriots were 50.8% (33-65). The Patriots were on top of the Mustangs, with three-pointers averaging 46.7% (14-30) versus 30.4% (7-23). The Mustangs did battle hard with the Patriots in free throws with an average of 57.1% (8-14), while the Patriots were just barely on top, averaging 80.0% (8-10).
 
Jaelyn Morrison (El Paso, TX/Hanks High School) would lead the Mustangs with a total of 14 points. Alina Martin had a total of 10 points, right behind Jaelyn Morrison (El Paso, TX/Hanks High School). Steph Da Silva (Melbourne, AUS/Loreta Mandeville Hall High School) would go 2-2 in her free throws, averaging 100%. Naomi Kimble (Animas, NM/Animas High School) played a defensive game, recording six rebounds for the Mustangs. Leading the team in assists, Steph Da Silva (Melbourne, AUS/Loreta Mandeville Hall High School) also gave her team a helping hand with a total of 3.
 
The Patriots capitalized on Western New Mexico's 17 turnovers, generating 24 points off those miscues and establishing a strong lead early. Western New Mexico fought hard with a second chance point and four fast break points.
