SILVER CITY, N.M. – The Western New Mexico Mustangs took on the Texas A&M – Kingsville Javelinas on Saturday afternoon on a chilly, clear November day. The Mustangs trailed the entire game, and though they staged a late comeback, they ultimately fell short, losing 20- 28.

The Mustangs' offense was led by backup quarterback Connor Ackerley (Tempe, Arizona/Corona Del Sol High School), completing 14 of 32 passes for 247 yards two touchdowns, and one interception. Starting QB Josh Magana (Dinuba, CA/Dinuba High School) completed 14 of 17 passing attempts for 109 yards and one touchdown before coming out of the game due to injury.

Wide receiver Deuce Zimmerman (Anchorage, AK/East Anchorage High School)  led all Mustang receivers, finishing with 8 receptions for 182 yards and two touchdown catches. Running Back Zay Savoie (Apache Junction, AZ/Red Mountain High School) had the only other touchdown on the day. The Mustangs' rushing game struggled, with Jamon Chambers (Federal Way, WA/Stadium High School) (Federal Way, WA/Stadium High School) leading the ground attack but managing only 34 net yards on 10 carries.

On defense, Cole Lalama (Queen Creek, AZ/Queen Creek High School) led Western New Mexico with 10 tackles, including 4 solo efforts. Osvaldo Raigosa (Whittier, CA/La Serna High School, Gaberilino High School) contributed with 9 tackles while Stephen Nagbe (Willingboro, NJ/) had the only sack counted for the Mustang Defense.

Kicker Zach Gordon (Lillington, NC/Rosewood High School) was solid, converting two of two PATs and averaging 63.8 yards per kick with three touchbacks. There was only one field goal attempt and it turned out to be unsuccessful.
The Mustangs will end the season on the road next Saturday against Midwestern State on November 16, 2024.
