Mustangs Have a Tough Night in Aggie Territorry

Las Cruces N.M. – The Western New Mexico Mustangs Women's Basketball team continued their early 2024-2025 season on Wednesday night, taking on New Mexico State University Aggies in The Pan American Center. Despite their hard-fought efforts, the Mustangs ultimately fell short, losing 41-78.

The Mustangs faced challenges in shooting, averaging 28.3% (13-46) compared to the Aggies' 45.5% (30-66). Mustangs fell short at the 3 pt line as they averaged 30.8% (4-13), while the Aggies averaged 37.5% (6-16). However, the Mustangs struggled in free throws, achieving a mere 61.1% (11-18) from the free throw line, similarly the Aggies managed only 566.7% (12-18).

Nxerro Maluw (Grand Prairie, TX/South Grand Prairie High School) and Jaelyn Morrison (El Paso, TX/Hanks High School) led the Mustangs with 10 points, closely followed by Steph Da Silva (Melbourne, AUS/Loreta Mandeville Hall High School) with seven points.  Eliza Joynes (Adelaide, South Australia/Henley Sports Academy) had five rebounds of her with a close follow from Nxerro Maluw (Grand Prairie, TX/South Grand Prairie High School) and Jaelyn Morrison (El Paso, TX/Hanks High School) with four.

The Aggies took advantage of Western New Mexico's 32 turnovers, converting them into 30 points and establishing an early lead. The Mustangs fought to the end but could not muster enough offense to come out on top.

The Mustangs will be on the road once more in Alpine, Texas, taking on the Sul Ross State Lobos. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m. MT on November 23, 2024.
