Patriots Send Mustangs Home Empty Handed

TYLER, Texas - The Mustangs made the quick turn around from a match on Friday night to face the Patriots of UT Tyler Saturday afternoon in Tyler, Texas. The Mustangs showed flashes of potential in the second set but couldn't maintain momentum against one of the LSC's top teams in the Patriots, falling 3-0 in straight sets: 18-25, 22-25, 13-25. 
 
Jazmyne Walker (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy High School) led the attack with 11 kills on 36 attempts. Carley Deck (Tucson, AZ/Tanque Verde High School) added 6 kills. Jayden Hughes (High Rolls, NM/Cloudcroft High School) had a solid outing with 7 kills and a .333 hitting percentage. Maria Osorio (Pereira, Colombia/Calasanz Pereira) contributed 4 kills, while Jade Rampton (Nelson, New Zealand/Shanghai American School) chipped in with 3 kills.
 
Eimaya Medina (Las Cruces, NM/Centennial High School) was instrumental in setting up plays for the Mustangs, recording 26 assists. On the defensive side, Lilouann Bechec (Cannes, France) lead the team with 15 digs but also contributed one service ace. 
 
Set 1:
WNMU got on the board with Carley Deck's (Tucson, AZ/Tanque Verde High School) powerful kill from Eimaya Medina (Las Cruces, NM/Centennial High School), bringing the score to 1-5. Jayden Hughes (High Rolls, NM/Cloudcroft High School) got in on the scoring with a kill set up by Lilouann Bechec (Cannes, France), making the score 13-17. UTT ultimately maintained control, winning the set 18-25
 
Patriots 1, Mustangs 0.

Set 2:
The Mustangs battled tough throughout, with a kill from Carley Deck (Tucson, AZ/Tanque Verde High School) set up by Eimaya Medina (Las Cruces, NM/Centennial High School), the Mustangs would go ahead 11-10. Later, Maria Osorio (Pereira, Colombia/Calasanz Pereira) added to the momentum with a well-placed kill from Medina, giving WNMU a narrow lead at 18-19. Despite these efforts, UTT would take the set 22-25.

Patriots 2, Mustangs 0.

Set 3: 
Eimaya Medina (Las Cruces, NM/Centennial High School) assisted Jazmyne Walker (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy High School) for a critical kill, bringing the score to 2-6. WNMU struggled to regain control as the match progressed ultimately losing the set 13-25.

Patriots 3, Mustangs 0

The Mustangs will have two final home matches next week before ending the season on the road. On Thursday November 7 at 6 p.m. MDT, the Mustangs host the Rattlers of St. Mary's.  On Saturday November 9, 2024, the Mustangs pay tribute to their graduating Seniors on Senior Night, against St. Edwards at 6 p.m. MDT.
