Mustangs Take Aggies to Five Sets in Oklahoma

Lawton, Oklahoma - The 2024 Volleyball season continued for the Western New Mexico Mustangs. The Mustangs traveled to Lawton, Oklahoma, to play the Cameron University Aggies this week. After a tough game that took the Mustangs to five sets, the Mustangs lost 2-3 to the Aggies.
 
Cameron University:

Jazmyne Walker (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy High School) led the Mustangs with 17 kills total against the Aggies. Ava Wadley (Wichita, KS/Rose Hill High School) will work hard for the Mustangs, earning 21 assists. Eimaya Medina (Las Cruces, NM/Centennial High School) would do the team a solid and record four service aces.

The back row of the Mustangs was a busy game as Lilouann Bechec (Cannes, France) would lead the team with 21 digs. Jazmyne Walker (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy High School) and Jade Rampton (Nelson, New Zealand/Shanghai American School) would lend a helping hand to the team with three block assists each for the Mustangs.
 
Set 1
A kill by Jazmyne Walker (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy High School) would earn the first point for the Mustangs. The Mustangs are down the whole set to the Aggies but still fight hard to close the gap at 18-17 with a block by Carley Deck (Tucson, AZ/Tanque Verde High School) and Eimaya Medina (Las Cruces, NM/Centennial High School). The Mustangs will lose set 1 to the Aggies, 19-25

Set 2

Finding a new momentum, Carley Deck (Tucson, AZ/Tanque Verde High School) would earn a kill and get the first point on the board for the Mustangs. After a five-point run, Jade Rampton (Nelson, New Zealand/Shanghai American School) and Jazmyne Walker (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy High School) earn a block to stop the Aggies. The Mustangs tied it up at 18-18 with a serve by Eimaya Medina (Las Cruces, NM/Centennial High School). To win the set, Jayden Hughes (High Rolls, NM/Cloudcroft High School) records a kill, and the set finishes at 25-23.

Set 3
A block by Jazmyne Walker (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy High School) and Jade Rampton (Nelson, New Zealand/Shanghai American School) will give the Mustangs their first point of the set. Tying it at 4-4 with a kill by Maria Osorio (Pereira, Colombia/Calasanz Pereira), the Mustangs will continue to find their momentum. Not giving up the fight, another kill by Maria Osorio (Pereira, Colombia/Calasanz Pereira) will bring the Mustangs to 21-24 against the Aggies. Not finishing through, the Mustangs lose the third set 25-22.

Set 4
Pushing into the fourth set, Jazmyne Walker (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy High School) makes a kill for the Mustangs, earning the lead against the Aggies. Maria Osorio (Pereira, Colombia/Calasanz Pereira) will record a kill and bring the score to 12-7. Staying in the lead, Hannah Del Rio (Vacaville, CA/Will C. Wood High School) makes a kill to finish off the set 25-20.

Set 5
Jazmyne Walker (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy High School) gets a kill for the Mustangs' first point of the set. Falling behind but not giving up, the Mustangs record a block by Maria Osorio (Pereira, Colombia/Calasanz Pereira) and Hannah Del Rio (Vacaville, CA/Will C. Wood High School) to make the score 10-11. Ultimately, the Mustangs lose set three and the match against the Aggies, 13-15.

Aggies 3, Mustangs 2.

On to their last game of the season, the Mustangs will play against Oklahoma Christian University, on November 16, 2024. Serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. MT.
