SILVER CITY, N.M. - The Western New Mexico Football team traveled east to take on the Buffaloes of West Texas A&M Saturday night. The WT passing attack proved to be too much to handle for the Mustangs as the Buffalos would take the victory 42-17.
WNMU quarterback
Josh Magana (Dinuba, CA/Dinuba High School) completed 8 of 21 passes for 116 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. He was under heavy pressure throughout the game, getting sacked five times. His touchdown came on a 29-yard connection with
Demarion Postell (Tolleson, AZ/Tolleson Union High School), who made one reception.
Hunter Davis (Portland, OR/), who also saw time at quarterback, completed one of seven attempts for 33 yards and one interception.
On the ground, WNMU struggled to establish a consistent rushing attack. Magana led the Mustangs with 22 carries but managed only 31 net yards and one rushing touchdown, while
Jamon Chambers (Federal Way, WA/Stadium High School) contributed 47 yards on nine carries, averaging 5.2 yards per attempt.
Anthony Flores (Casa Grande, AZ/Casa Grande Union High School) was the leading receiver for WNMU, hauling in six receptions for 85 yards.
Deuce Zimmerman (Anchorage, AK/East Anchorage High School) made a single catch for 33 yards, providing one of the team's few big plays.
Defensively,
Cole Lalama (Queen Creek, AZ/Queen Creek High School) Finished with 11 total tackles, followed by
Justin Evans (Detroit, MI/) with 9 total tackles.
Tristen Williams (Inglewood, CA/Leuzinger High School) pulled in the Mustangs lone turnover, an interception which he returned for 20 yards.
Kicker
Zach Gordon (Lillington, NC/Rosewood High School) made the most of his opportunity, hitting a 31-yard field goal in the second quarter.
The Mustangs are on the road again next week as they travel to Alpine Texas for a match-up with first year Lone Star member,
