Laredo, Texas - The 2024 Volleyball season continued for the Western New Mexico Mustangs. Today, they started off their weekend series playing Texas A&M International losing 0-3 against the Dustdevils.
Texas A&M International:
Jazmyne Walker (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy High School) led the offense for the Mustangs with 10 kills.
Eimaya Medina (Las Cruces, NM/Centennial High School) would spread the ball around the court nicely with 15 assists.
Lilouann Bechec (Cannes, France) would help the team with an ace.
The back row of the Mustangs had a busy game as
Logan Dodge (Liberal, KS/Liberal Senior High School) would lead the team with nine digs.
Jade Rampton (Nelson, New Zealand/Shanghai American School) and Jéssica Sales would lead the team with two block assists each for the Mustangs.
Set 1
The Dustdevils would start off strong and gain the lead 10-6. Kills made by Jéssica Sales and
Jade Rampton (Nelson, New Zealand/Shanghai American School) would help keep the Mustangs on the board making the score 12-10. The Mustangs couldn't quite catch up and lost the set 25-17.
Dustdevils 1, Mustangs 0.
Set 2
Keeping up their momentum, the Dustdevils started off the set with the first point. The Mustangs kept up the fight and had them close at 8-7 with the Dustdevils in the lead. The Mustangs soon would lose the set 25-13.
Dustdevils 2, Mustangs 0.
Set 3
Pushing into the third set, the Dustdevils go on a three point run until
Carley Deck (Tucson, AZ/Tanque Verde High School) makes a kill and puts the Mustangs on the board. The Dustdevils soon fight back and win set 25-15, taking the match 3-0
Dustdevils 3, Mustangs 0.
The Mustangs will continue off their weekend playing Texas A&M - Kingsville October 5, 2024.
