SILVER CITY, NM – The mustangs played on Drags Court where they took on West Texas A&M, After leading most of the first half of the game, WNMU would later fall to WT 69-62.
Though the Mustangs did lose the battle, four of the players scored in double figures. Sydney Wright (Houston, Texas/Henley High School), of course, led the team with 16 points, including 3 from the arc within the first 2 minutes of the game. Larissa Laborin (Las Cruces, New Mexico/Centennial High School) also started out hot as she nailed 2 from deep and a layup in the first quarter combining for 12 points individually. Tied with her in scoring was Brooke Rodgers (Phoenix, Arizona/Cactus Shadows High School), who had one of her best shooting performances all season. Milan Tuttle (Oakland, California/Heritage High School) finished only 1 point being both Rodgers and Laborin as she played strong in the 2nd quarter.
Eliza Joynes (Adelaide, South Australia/Henley Sports Academy) was the leading rebounder for the Mustangs in the game. She was able to grab three offensive boards and cleaned the glass six times on defense.
While the Mustangs did not shoot as high from the stripe to the Buffs, they did have their best season FT percentage at 70.6%, which helped them stay in the game for as long as they did.
WNMU also shot a team's season high from deep at 42.1%, including a 3pnt percentage of 75% (6-8) in the first Quarter of play.
The Mustangs started right out of the gate and went on an 11-0 shooting streak within the first few minutes, but found a drought in the 3rd Quarter. While they were able to find a some rhythm in the final minutes, it was not quite enough momentum to get back in the game.
The Buffs went on to take the victory over the Mustangs.
The Mustangs, still unable to find a victory in the New Year, will face Lubbock Christian on Saturday once again on Drags Court
