SILVER CITY, N.M. – The Western New Mexico University Volleyball finished off homecoming weekend with a match up against the Eagles of Oklahoma Christian. The Eagles would sweep a shorthanded Mustangs team, 3-0.
Jazmyne Walker (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy HS) led the offense with 14 kills. Letícia Correa was good for 9 assists. Two Mustangs recorded an ace.
Walker was also the Mustang's leader on defense with 10 digs.
Naomi Kimble (Animas, NM/Animas HS) protected the net with two blocks.
The Eagles came out high flying in set one, storming out a 12-6 lead. OCU would not let off the gas, making quick work of the Mustangs, 25-14.
Eagles 1, Mustangs 0.
In set two, we saw that same determined Eagles squad as they flew out to an early 14-8 advantage. The Mustangs would not be able to catch up, falling 25-15.
Eagles 2, Mustangs 0.
For set number three, the Mustangs came out with their best set of the match. WNMU lead late 28-27. The Eagles responded with three straight point for the victory, 30-28.
Eagles 3, Mustangs 0.
The Mustangs will hit the road next weekend for a matchup at Dallas Baptist on Friday October 6
th (5:00 PM MT).
