SILVER CITY, N.M. - The Yard was electric on Friday afternoon, as the Western New Mexico University Softball team would host the Mustangs of Midwestern for the first two games of the Mustangs final home series of the year.
GAME ONE:
MSU would get things started early in the first inning with a sacrifice fly to center from Allie Monroe, to take a 1-0 lead.
In the second inning, MSU would get another run on the board with a solo home run from Kerris Cameron.
MSU's Jessica Roberts would hit a two-run home run extending the lead to 4-0 in the top of the 4th inning.
The bottom of the would be where the Mustang's offense would get rolling. Nichole Armijo (Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain HS) would get it started with a double to left, scoring Kennedy Jarrard (Carlsbad, CA/Carlsbad HS) to cut the deficit, 4-1. Cecy Jurado (El Monte, California/South El Monte High school) reached on an error to score Armijo, making it 4-2.
In the bottom of the 7th inning Adlai Alvirdrez would have some smart baserunning, advancing on a dropped ball to trim the lead down to 4-3.
Kamerynn Cordova (Fowler, CA/Fowler HS) started for the Mustangs and pitched 7.0 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 Ks and 1 BB. Cordova is now (5-16) on the year.
MSU would start Kennedy Cameron going 7.0 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB and 4 Ks. Cameron is now (2-8) on the season.

GAME TWO:
Cassidy Paulson (Arvada, CO/Golden Colorado HS) got the start for the Mustangs. Paulson's line read 6.2 IP, 11 H, 7 R, 6 ER and 4 Ks. Pitching in relief was Aryana Munoz (Dexter, New Mexico/Dexter High School). Munoz pitched 0.1 IP. Munoz is now (1-1) on the season.
MSU's Bailey Breneck would get things started with a single to score Roberts for a 1-0 lead. Lexi Mills would reach on error to score Monroe making it 2-0. Following suit was Paige Bryant with a double sending home Brenek for a 3-0 cushion.
In the second inning Alvirdrez scored Jarrard to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Bryana Munoz (Dexter, NM/Dexter High School) would smash a two-run homerun that bounced off the top of the fence, scoring Jurado to tie things up 3-3.
A solo moon shot from Maddy Bleak would give the WNMU their first lead of the game in the fourth inning, 4-3. WNMU would not stop their as Salazar reached on an error to score Alvirdrez, making it 5-3 WNMU.
MSU's Kerris Cameron would find a solo shot for MSU in the 6th, only trailing 5-4.
In the top of the seventh inning Mills would send a three-run shot to Drag's Court to retake the lead 7-5.
With the odds stacked against them in the bottom of the seventh WNMU would dig deep to pull off the comeback. Bryana Munoz (Dexter, NM/Dexter High School) would get things started with a solo homerun, her second of the game, to trim the lead, 7-6. It would be Kaylee Hickman's (Cloudcroft, NM/Cloudcroft High School) turn to play hero today. Hickman would send a two-run home run into the windshield of a car to walk-it-off 7-6.
