SILVER CITY, N.M. - The Yard was the place to be on Wednesday afternoon when the Western New Mexico University softball team hosted UTPB for the final game of a three-game-series. The Mustangs would walk-off in emphatic fashion 5-4.
Ciara Salazar (Tularosa, NM/Tularosa HS) would get things started early with a triple in the 1st inning. On the next pitch Cecy Jurado (El Monte, California/South El Monte High school) would single to left bringing home Salazar for an early 1-0 lead.
In the 5th inning Jurado would set up to the plate hitting a triple into right field, scoring Adlai Alvidrez (El Paso, TX/Americas HS) to extend the lead to 2-0. Following Jurado was Bryana Munoz (Dexter, NM/Dexter High School) striking a single to score Jurado for a 3-0 cushion.
The Falcons would not go away however as Aracely Araiza would launch a grand slam into the parking lot to take the lead 4-3 in the top of the 6th.
With no outs and a runner on second base it was time for a hero and Bryanna Munoz became that hero. Munoz would send the first pitch she saw over the fence to walk-it-off 5-4.
Emily Maddux (Douglas, AZ/Douglas High School) started for the Mustangs and would pitch 6.0 IP, 6 H, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER and 3 Ks. Cassidy Paulson (Arvada, CO/Golden Colorado HS) would replace Maddux in the 7th going 1.0 IP and 1 H. Paulson would receive the win and is now (3-5) on the year.
The Falcons started Abby Cousins, going 6.0 IP, 12 H, 5 R, 5 ER and 2 Ks. Cousins is now (2-10) on the season.

B. Munoz: 2-for-4, 1 R, 3 RBIs, 1 Walk-Off HR
K. Jarrad: 2-for-3

K. Sanford: 3-for-4
C. Marquez: 1-for-2, 1 R
The Mustangs will be back in action this weekend for a matchup at #3 UT Tyler (1:00 PM MT)
