SILVER CITY, N.M. - On Tuesday The Yard was in full force as the Western New Mexico University Softball team hosted UTPB for the first two games of a three-game-series. The Mustang comeback from behind in game one to with 7-5, but hit a barrage of homeruns in game two for a 13-1 victory.
GAME ONE:
The Falcons jumped out to an early lead in the 1st inning with a two-out double by Aracely Araiza, scoring Mia Quintero and Emily Andress for a 2-0 lead. Aryell Aguiar would follow suit with a single, scoring Taylen Thurman and Araiza to extend the lead to 4-0.
In the bottom of the 2nd inning the Mustangs would strike with a 3-run moonshot from Kaylee Hickman (Cloudcroft, NM/Cloudcroft High School) to make it 4-3 Falcons.Â
The Mustangs would tie things up 4-4 in the 4th inning with a single from Kamerynn Cordova (Fowler, CA/Fowler HS) bringing Kennedy Jarrad home.
In the top of the 5th inning the Falcons would retake the lead 5-4, thanks to Araiza, scoring Quintero.
Cecy Jurado (El Monte, California/South El Monte High school) would step up to the plate in the bottom of the 5th inning with a single, sending Adlai Alvidrez (El Paso, TX/Americas HS) home to tie things up 5-5. On the next pitch Bryana Munoz (Dexter, NM/Dexter High School) would help the Mustangs take their first lead of the game with a single down the left-field, scoring Ciara Salazar (Tularosa, NM/Tularosa HS) making it 6-5. The Mustangs would not stop there as Aryana Munoz (Dexter, New Mexico/Dexter High School) would hit a sacrifice fly to score Jurado to cushion the lead to 7-5.Â
Kamerynn Cordova (Fowler, CA/Fowler HS) started for the Mustangs and threw a complete game. She is now (4-16) on the year. Her line went 7.0 IP, 8 H, 5 R 3 ER, 2 Ks and 2 BB.Â
The Falcons started Abby Cousins, going 6.0 IP, 6 H, 7 R, 7 ER and 3 BB. Cousins is now (2-9) on the season.

GAME TWO:
Cassidy Paulson (Arvada, CO/Golden Colorado HS) got the start and the W (2-5) for the Mustangs. Paulson's line read 5.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 Ks.
UTPB's Morgan McQueen got the start. McQueen would go 1.0 IP, 6 R, 6 ER and 2 BB. She is now (0-1) on the year. Aubree Beggs would pitch in relief going 1.2 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 7 ER and 2 BB. Cousins would finish out the game pitching 1.1 IP and 1 BB.
Bryana Munoz (Dexter, NM/Dexter High School) would was no time getting things started as she would kick things off with a grand slam in the 1st inning for a 4-0 lead. In the same inning Hickman would hit her second home run of the day, extending the lead to 5-0.
On the first pitch of the 2nd inning Madeline Bleak (Mesa, AZ/Mountain View HS) sent a ball in orbit making 6-0 Mustangs. The Mustangs were not done there Jurado would single to center, scoring Salazar for a 7-0 cushion. Jarrard would follow suit with a double, scoring Jurardo for an 8-0 advantage.
In the 3rd inning Bryana Munoz (Dexter, NM/Dexter High School) stepped back up to the plate for a bases clearing double to bring home Jurado, Salazar and Alvidrez to extend the lead to 11-0. Jarrard would keep things going with a double that scored Bryana Munoz (Dexter, NM/Dexter High School) and Ramona Fossum (Mescalero, NM/Mescalero Apache HS) to take their biggest lead of the day, 13-0.
The Falcons would not go away without getting a run as Quintero would hit a solo shot to cut the deficit to 13-1.Â
