Box Score SILVER CITY, N.M. – Thursday afternoon, the Western New Mexico University had a nail-biting 4-3 win, against conference opponent Arkansas-Fort Smith.
The Mustangs got the early lead, winning the doubles point. At No. 1 doubles Caini Wang (New Taipei City, Taiwan/Taipei Municipal Nangang Vocational High School) and Kasja Gedlitschka won, 6-3. No. 3 doubles with Willemijn Van Mierlo (Amsterdam, Netherlands/Calandlyceum) and Mann-Ning Li (Converse, TX/John H. Guyer HS) won their match by default. No. 2 duo partners, Jenny Larsson (Stockholm, Sweden) and Livia Leite (Cunha-SP, Brazil/Bernardino Querido,) fell 6-4.
Larsson played as the No. 2 singles player and won 2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4. Li played at the No. 5 spot, and won 1-6, 7-6 (9-1), 6-2. Playing at the No. 6 spot, Gedlitschka won by default.
Playing at the No. 1 spot, Van Mierlo lost to her opponent 6-1, 6-3. Leite played at the No. 3 position and was defeated by her opponent 6-2, 6-4. Wang played in the No. 4 position and fell 5-7, 6-3, 2-6.
The Mustangs will play a non-conference match versus Sul Ross State with first serve around 10:00am
