Box Score 1 THATCHER, Ariz. – The Western New Mexico University Women's tennis team opened up the regular season with matchups against Mesa CC and Eastern Arizona. The Mustangs would defeat the Thunderbirds 9-0 and the Monsters 8-1.
"It was really inspiring to see these women get together and preserve through the adversity," said Coach Grant DeGrasse.
MESA CC:
In doubles, the Mustangs would sweep 3-0. No.1 Jenny Larsson (Stockholm, Sweden) and Livia Leite (Cunha-SP, Brazil/Bernardino Querido,) would win 8-1. No. 2 Kasja Gedlitschka and Emily Wag won 8-0. Finally, No. 3 Willemijn Van Mierlo (Amsterdam, Netherlands/Calandlyceum) and Mimi Li would win 8-2.
In singles No.1 Van Mierlo would be victorious 6-0, 6-0. No. 2 Leite would win 6-0, 6-0. No. 3 Larsen won 6-0, 6-1. No. 4 Wong won her matchup 6-1 6-0. No. 5 Li would sweep 6-0, 6-0. Finally, Andreea Arnautu (Laval, Quebec, Canada/College Laval) would win by forfeit.
EASTERN ARIZONA:
In doubles Larson and Leite would win 8-4, Gedlitschka and Wong would be victorious 8-2 and Li and Van Mierlo won 8-4.
In singles No. 1 Van Mierlo would win 6-4, 4-6, 10-1. No. 2 Leite would lose. No. 3 Larson would be victorious 6-2, 5-7, 13-11. No. 4 Wong won 6-0, 6-1. No. 5 Li won 6-3, 6-1. Finally, No. 6 Gedlitschka would win 6-3, 6-0.
The Mustangs will play at Arizona Christian on February 16th.
