Javelinas Take First Two Games From Mustangs

SILVER CITY, N.M. - Saturday afternoon, at The Yard, the Western New Mexico University Mustangs lost both games to Texas A&M-Kingsville. In game one the Mustangs lost 10-1 and in game two, lost  9-1.

Bryana Munoz (Dexter, NM/Dexter High School) hit a solo home run in game one and Aryana Munoz (Dexter, New Mexico/Dexter High School) hit one in game two. The sisters produced the only runs for the Mustangs.

GAME ONE:

The Javelinas attacked early in the 1st inning. With two outs, Aaliyah Ortiz would hit a two-run shot to left field. TAMUK led 2-0.

TAMUK extended their lead in the 2nd inning with a Jory Cerventes RBI walk. The next batter Ortiz clobbered a ball to center field, hitting a grand slam. The Javelinas were up 7-0.

TAMUK's Breanna Carr doubled in a run in the 3rd inning, giving the Javelinas a 8-0 lead.

In the bottom of the 4th inning, Bryana Munoz (Dexter, NM/Dexter High School) blasted a solo home run to left field, putting the Mustangs on the board. WNMU trailed 8-1.

The Javelinas were not done yet and hit back-to-back home runs. Matisen Onofrei went to center field and Natalie Rodriguez to left field. TAMUK led 10-1.

Getting the start was Kammeryn Cordova. She falls to (2-7) on the year. Her line went 1.2 IP, 5 H, 7 ER, 1 K, 2 BB and 1 HBP. Aryana Munoz (Dexter, New Mexico/Dexter High School) was in relief and went, 2.1 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 2 K and 1 BB. Jasmin Kirby (Surprise, AZ/State Farm Stadium HS) finished out the game going, 1.0 IP and 1 H.

The Javelinas started Lizette Del Angel. She is now (1-4) on the year. She went 5.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, and 2 K..

M. Onofrei: 2-for-2, 3 R, HR, 1 RBI, HBP

GAME TWO:

Jasmin Kirby (Surprise, AZ/State Farm Stadium HS) got the loss (0-1) after surrendering 0.2 IP, 3 H, 7 R (2 ER), 2 K and 2 BB. Emily Maddux (Douglas, AZ/Douglas High School) came into relief pitching 1.1 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 1 K and 1 BB. Cassidy Paulson (Arvada, CO/Golden Colorado HS) finished out the game going 3.0 IP, 2 H, 2 K, and 1 BB.

TAMUK was up 7-0 after the top of the 1st inning. Breanna Carr singled in a run. Jackie Garza got in on the action, hitting a sacrifice fly. Rylee Oborski reached on an error bringing in a run. Natalie Rodriguez reached on an error, scoring three runs. Jory Cerventes also reached on an error, tallying up a run.

The Javelinas continued to mash the ball. Kayla Gonzales hit a solo home run to leadoff the 2nd inning. A couple batters later, Brylee Brigler hit a solo home run to center field. TAMUK was up 9-0.

Headed into the bottom of the 5th inning, Aryana Munoz (Dexter, New Mexico/Dexter High School) stepped up to the plate, hitting a solo home run to downtown Silver City. The Mustangs trailed 9-1.

TAMUK's starting pitcher Carissa De Los Santos earned the win (1-2). She went 5.0 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 5 K, and 2 BB.

B. Brigler: 1-for-1, 2 R, HR 1 RBI, 2 BB

J. Garza: 1-for-2, 3B, 1 RBI
