SILVER CITY, N.M. - Monday morning, at The Yard, the Western New Mexico University Mustangs lost the final game of three game series with Texas A&M Kingsville 8-0.
The Javelinas attacked early in the 1st inning. With the bases loaded Aaliyah Ortiz would ground into fielders choice at 3rd base scoring Jory Cervantes for a 1-0 lead. TAMUK was not done there, as Matisen Onofrei would launch a three-run home run into left-center. The Javelinas would end the inning leading 4-0.
In the top of the second inning Breana Carr would single up the middle, scoring Cervantes ro extend the lead to 5-0. On the next pitch Kayla Gonzales would send a two-run shot to center for a 7-0 lead at the end of two innings.
The Javelinas were not done yet, as Onofrei would send a solo-shot over the fence, for her second homerun of the day to extend the lead 8-0.
Getting the start to was Emily Maddux (Douglas, AZ/Douglas High School). She falls to (0-2) on the year. Her line went 1.2 IP, 3 H, 7 ER, 1 K, 2 BB and 1 HBP. Kamerynn Cordova (Fowler, CA/Fowler HS) was in relief and went, 3.1 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 2 K and 1 BB.
The Javelinas started Beth Montes. She is now (4-2). She went 3.1 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 8 K, 2 BB.
