PORTALES, N.M. - Wednesday afternoon, at Greyhound Softball Stadium, the Western New Mexico University Mustangs lost game three 15-2, to in-state rival Eastern New Mexico. The Greyhounds take the series, winning two games.
The Mustangs had 16 hits during the series, manufacturing 10 runs. WNMU blasted three home runs and an additional three extra-base hits. WNMU hitters had six walks, but had 21 strikeouts. The Greyhounds had 30 runs on 38 hits, and only struck out 13 times. They had 14 extra-base hits and had 14 free bases.
The Mustangs attacked early in the first inning. Bryana Munoz (Dexter, NM/Dexter High School) doubled and got third base on a pass ball. Jenna Peters (Lake Elsinore, CA/Temescal Canyon HS) reached on an error to the pitcher, resulting in a run.
ENMU stayed up in bottom of the inning and hit a three-run home run. The greyhounds led 3-1.
In the bottom of the 3rd inning, ENMU extended their lead to 11-1. A lead off triple followed by back-to-back hits gave ENMU a run. Two batters later, a double scored another run. A pair of walks brought in a run. The following batter had a sacrifice fly. Then, the next three batters had an RBI single, two RBI double, and an RBI single.
The Greyhounds extended their lead in the bottom of the 4th inning. ENMU hit a ground rule double, bringing in a rule.
Getting the start was Kammeryn Cordova. She falls to (2-6) on the year. Her line went 0.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R (2 ER), 1 K, and 1 HBP. Emily Maddux (Douglas, AZ/Douglas High School) came into relief pitching, 2.0 IP, 4 H, 5 ER, 2 K, and 1 BB. Cassidy Paulson (Arvada, CO/Golden Colorado HS) later came in and her line went, 0.1 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, and 1 BB. Aryana Munoz (Dexter, New Mexico/Dexter High School) finished out the game going, 1.1 IP, 5 H, 4 R (3 ER), 1 K, and 1 HBP.
The Greyhounds started Emma Southerland. She is now (2-0) on the year. She went 5.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 7 K, and 3 BB.

The Mustangs will be back at home this weekend against Texas A&M-Kingsville. On Saturday, first pitch will be at 12:00pm and 2:00pm and on Sunday, first pitch will be at 12:00pm.
