SILVER CITY, N.M. - Saturday afternoon, at the brand new Mustang Stadium, the Western New Mexico University Mustangs had the long ball going before falling in both games 6-3 and 16-4.
GAME ONE:
The Mustangs had the lead most of the game, starting with Aryana Munoz (Dexter, New Mexico/Dexter High School) smacking a two-run home run in the 2nd inning.Â
In the 5th inning, Madeline Bleak (Mesa, AZ/Mountain View HS) hit her first collegiate home run, making the Mustang lead 3-0.
In the 6th inning, OC answered back with a two-run home run of their own, cutting the Mustang lead to 3-2.
With two outs in the top of the 7th inning, the Eagles hit another two-run home run to take the lead. They then extended the lead to 6-3, after a double scored two more..
Kammeryn Cordova continues to pitch well. Though she got the loss (2-3), she went 6.2 IP, 11 H, 6 R (5 ER), and 4 K. Emily Maddux (Douglas, AZ/Douglas High School) finished out the game, pitching 0.1 IP, 0 H and 0 R.
The Eagles started Payton Foster. Her line went 2.1 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, and 1 K. The winning pitcher was Jill Dickson (2-0) and she went 4.2 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 9 K , and 1 BB.

GAME TWO:
Cassidy Paulson (Arvada, CO/Golden Colorado HS) got the nod for the Mustangs. She had a tough outing going 1.2 IP, 7 H, 8 ER, and 1 BB. She now falls to (0-3) on the season.
In the 1st inning, OC got the first five batters on, scoring three runs. They then followed up with two runs by the next two batters hitting sacrifice flies. OC led 5-0.
The next inning, the Eagles had an RBI double and a two-run home run to make the score 8-0.
On the flip side of the inning, Laryssa Morales (Vail, AZ/Cienega High School) smacked a solo home run. The Mustangs trailed 8-1.
The Eagles continued to add more runs in the 3rd inning. The first four runners all reached base. A two RBI single brought in one run and grounded into double plaque also brought in a runner.
Bryana Munoz (Dexter, NM/Dexter High School) went deep in the bottom of the 3rd inning, bringing in two runs. WNMU trailed 11-3.
In the top of the 4th inning, the Eagles put up five more runs. A sacrifice fly brought in a run, followed up by a RBI double. Later in the inning, there was a RBI walk and a two RBI single. OC led 16-3.
The Mustangs grabbed another run after Jenna Petters doubled and Kennedy Jarrard (Carlsbad, CA/Carlsbad HS) doubled, bringing in Peters. WNMU trailed 16-4.
Emily Maddux (Douglas, AZ/Douglas High School) also came in the game pitching 0.1 IP, 3 ER, 1 K, and 1 BB. Aryana Munoz (Dexter, New Mexico/Dexter High School) finished the game going, 3.0 IP, 6 H , 5 ER, 1 K, 2 BB, and a HBP.
OC's starting pitcher was Karsyn Iltis. Iltis is now (2-1), going 3.0 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, and 3 BB. Kiley Brewster also pitched, going 2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, and 3 K.
