Mustangs Fall to UT Tyler

DENTON, TX – UT Tyler faced the Mustangs earlier today at noon. The swoops took down WNMU 69-49, forcing the Mustangs to split their overall record wins in conference play.

While both teams faced a drought in scoring in the first half, the Swoops held the Mustangs to one of their lowest scoring quarters all season and only allowing 7 points in the 2nd.

Although the Swoops stopped Mustangs leading scorer Sydney Wright (Houston, Texas/Henley High School) from putting up numbers, Jade Goynes (Fort Worth, TX/North Crowley High School) had herself a major shooting performance, finding a way to drop 15 points and a personal high scoring record for WNMU.

The team was outplayed by the Swoops both offensively and defensively, containing one more turnover, giving up 13 picks, and allowing their opponent to grab 39 boards.

While WNMU was outscored by 20 points, they looked strong in the first quarter, and only giving the Swoops a 3-point lead by the end of it. Both teams shot less than 40% and committed the same amount of TOs.

The third quarter was also played close as both teams managed to score 19 points.

By the middle of the 4th quarter, UT Tyler found themselves running off with the rest of the match, forcing the Mustangs to scoring only half the amount that they put up.

WNMU will have a chance to recoup from Conference play as they take on D1 opponent New Mexico State University in an exhibition match next Sunday at 2pm. Hoping to regain back their confidence, they will not face a conference team again until the new year begins.
