LAS CRUCES, NM – Western New Mexico University played their 2
nd exhibition match of the season to New Mexico State University today.
The Mustangs had some good showing from the bench as
Nxerro Maluw (Grand Prairie, TX/South Grand Prairie High School) led the team in scoring. She had a new personal scoring high of 12, shooting 5-7 on FG and hitting 50% from distance.
WNMU had their season low at cleaning boards tonight while NMSU grabbed almost twice the amount as the Mustangs.
The team progressed from the last match behind the arc, but shot a lower percentage on overall FG attempts, and scored less from the charity strip.
While WNMU was still outscored in the 1
st quarter, the forced NMSU to shoot one of the lowest 1
st quarter FG attempts this season and would not let the Aggies take even one 3pointer.
While they also forced the Aggies to continue their dry spell on shooting attempts, the Mustangs struggled to find a bucket as well and shot only 8.33% in total on FG. They also were not able to connect from deep, going 0-4 on every chance they had.
The Mustangs were able to improve their shooting in the 3
rd quarter, but were still outmatched by the Aggies.
WNMU won the battle on shooting in the 4
th quarter, hitting 13.33% higher than NMSU.
WNMU will play another exhibition this week on Dec. 17
th against the UNM Lobos before making their way back home to play again in front of their fans.
