DENTON, TX – The Mustangs faced off against #15 Texas Women's University tonight in Denton a fell short for the first time this season with the score ending at 36-58.
The team struggled from deep, only knocking down one 3 the entire night out of 15 attempts. They also made a low percentage at the charity strip, shooting 7-17.
Although the team's shooting performance was off, they looked strong defensively as they came off the floor with 34 rebounds, 5 blocks, and 8 steals with two of those coming from
Brooke Rodgers (Phoenix, Arizona/Cactus Shadows High School) alone.
The Mustangs started the first quarter with several misses from the paint, and allowing TWU to go on an 8 point run. The Barn Owls would keep their lead by the end of the quarter 16-11.
Both teams were evenly match in the second quarter, with TWU outscoring WNMU by just one point and only shooting 3% higher. The mustangs would go into the locker room with the score reading 22-28.
The third quarter is where the Mustangs allowed the Barn Owls to take off, giving up 15 points and only returning 6 in the process. They shot 6.67% on FG this quarter and missed both of their attempted 3s.
Although they shot a much higher percentage at the line at 80% in the fourth quarter, the Mustangs still fell short to TWU in the final quarter. They allowed the Barn Owls to put up another 15 points.
WNMU will play their next opponent this Sat. at UT Tyler and look to earn back their win column
