Box Score Silver City, NM. – The Western New Mexico University Mustangs' volleyball team battled with Rival, Eastern New Mexico University tonight. ENMU took the victory 3 sets to 2.
Jazmyne Walker (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy HS) led the team tonight in Kills, combining for a team total of 45 with
Maria Osorio (Pereira, Colombia/Calasanz) (12) and
Naomi Kimble (Animas, NM/Animas HS) (11).
After having 31 assists last week, Letícia Correa had a season record of 47 assists tonight. She helped the team combine a total of 55 assists along with
Madalyn Mavady (Las Vegas, NV/Liberty High School) who had 6 and
Lilouann Bechec (Cannes, France) who had 2.
Bechec had an outstanding overall performance as she also produced 17 digs and 2 aces.
Janey Cortez (El Paso, TX/East Lake HS) also had 17 assists and 3 aces for herself.
On the defensive side, the team combined 11 blocks with
Naomi Kimble (Animas, NM/Animas HS) (5),
Carley Deck (Tucson, AZ/Tanque Verde HS) (4), and Cortez (2).
The mustangs fought for most of the 1
st set as the tied it up at 15-15, but would later fall at the end of the set 22-25.
WNMU 0, ENMU 1.
The Greyhounds took an 8 point lead later in the next set which edged them to a second set victory to the mustangs.
WNMU 0, ENMU2.
After battling back halfway through the set, the mustangs took an 8 point lead to the Greyhounds. ENMU slowly battled back and tied the Mustangs at 24-24. After going back and forth, the Mustangs took back the lead 29 points and held the lead to a set win.
WNMU 1, ENMU 2.
WNMU went on an early point winning streak and had the Greyhounds on the ropes midway through the 4
thset. Once again, ENMU battled back and answered by tying the Mustangs late in the set. WNMU would go on to hold them off and take another set victory to tie up the match completely.
WNMU 2, Cameron 2
The Greyhounds ran away early and held the lead all the way through the last set to take the Match win over the Mustangs.
