ODESSA, Texas – The Western New Mexico University Volleyball team finished their road trip with a matchup against the Falcons of UTPB. The Mustangs fell 3-2 in five hard fought sets.

Naomi Kimble (Animas, NM/Animas HS) led the offense with 17 kills.
Maria Osorio (Pereira, Colombia/Calasanz) had 14 kills as well. Letícia Correa had 40 assists and three aces.
Janey Cortez (El Paso, TX/East Lake HS) led the Mustangs on defense with 19 digs. Osorio added 17 digs. Carely Deck was a force up front with 3.5 total blocks.

The Mustangs and Falcons began set one trading points until the Mustangs extended their lead by three, 15-12 forcing a Falcon timeout. The timeout regrouped the Falcons, as they took set one 25-21.

In set two, the Mustangs found themselves trail by five, 12-17. After slowly but surely chipping away at the lead, a kill by
Jazmyne Walker (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy HS) put away the Falcons 25-23

For set number three, the Mustangs came trading with the Falcons yet again, tied 13-13. At this point the Falcons extended their lead to three and never looked back winning set three 25-16.

The fourth set seemed to be under control of the Falcons, as they lead lates 18-14 over the Mustangs. WNMU would until UTPB had 23 before tying things up. A kill from Kimble would seal the deal 25-23.

In set five, the Falcons pulled away quickly 10-4. The Mustangs tried to close the gap, but could not, as they fell 15-8.

The Mustangs return home this weekend for a matchup with St. Mary's University on Friday (6:00 PM MT).
