WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The Western New Mexico Football Team made the trip to Wichita Falls, Texas for an LSC matchup with Midwestern State. WNMU would lose 56-7
Their record now sits at (1-7).
The Mustangs Quarterback Hunter Davis (Portland, OR) completed 10 of 19 passes for 183 yards and 1 touchdown (TDs),
Davey Morales (Queen Creek, AZ/Queen Creek HS) lead the Mustangs in receptions with four for 29 yards. Deuce Zimmerman (Anchorage, AK/East Anchorage HS) added two catches for 124 yards and one TD.
On the ground Marcus Higgs (Los Angeles, CA/Warren HS) lead with three carries for 14 yards. James Hoban (Parker, AZ/Parker HS) added four rushes for 10 yards and Sanders Crawford (Liverpool, TX/Cinco Ranch HS) had five carries for 10 yards.
Cole Lalama (Queen Creek, AZ/) had 11 tackles, including nine solo. Osvaldo Raigosa (Whittier, CA) added 10 tackles. Isaiah Kelsey (Wilmington, DE/Florida A&M University) record an interception.
In the first quarter, Midwestern St. kicked things off with a field goal from Ritse Vaes from 45-yards out, 3-0 MSU. Midwestern St. would tack on three more with a 29-yard field goal, 6-0 MSU.
With 29 seconds until the half, Vaes knocked another one through the upright to make it 9-0 MSU.
Midwestern St. began the third quarter quickly with a 1-yard run from James Cooper Jr. to extend the lead to 16-0. Vaes would get another chance at three from 31-yards out, 19-0. A Davis fumble from WNMU would lead to a safety, giving Midwestern another two-points, 21-0 MSU. After the punt, Midwestern marched right down the field as Cooper Jr. his Ja'Juan Mason from 35-yards out for a touchdown, 28-0 MSU. Another WNMU set up Midwestern for another score, courtesy of Devin Cross from seven yards out for a 35-0. Zachary Keen finally closed out the third quarter with a two-yard run, extending the lead to 42-0.
In the fourth quarter, Midwestern was still hot as K'Vonte Jaackson scored from six-yards out, 49-0 MSU. WNMU finally got on the board with a 73-yard strike from Davis to Zimmerman, 49-7 MSU. Midwestern was not done there, as they added on another touchdown from Chris Abron, 56-7 MSU.
MSU's Cooper Jr. lead the passing attack going 6-8 for 99 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. Jalen March ran through WNMU with 21 attempts for 147 yards. Jackson added four carries for 75 yards and 1 TD. Justin White was the top receiver with two catches for 20 yards, Mason, Cross, Keen and Abron all added a TD on the night.
The Mustangs will return home next weekend with a matchup against UTPB on Nov. 4th.(12:00 PM MST).
