SILVER CITY, N.M. – The Western New Mexico University volleyball team hosted the battle of the Mustangs with a matchup against Midwestern State on Friday evening. WNMU would be victorious, 3-1.
 
Senior Jazmyne Walker (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy HS) was the offensive catalyst tonight with 22 kills and .310 hitting percentage. Janey Cortez (El Paso, TX/East Lake HS) added 12 kills as well. Letícia Correa set a season-high assist mark tonight with 48 assists. Jéssica Sales and Logan Dodge (Liberal, KS/Liberal Senior High School) has three aces each.

Lilouann Bechec (Cannes, France) was all over the floor tonight, with 18 digs. Carley Deck (Tucson, AZ/Tanque Verde HS) was a force at the net with 1.5 total blocks.
 
WNMU took a quick lead in set one, 10-5 thanks to a kill from Maria Osorio (Pereira, Colombia/Calasanz). Back-to-back aces from Bechec would put Midwestern away, 25-14
 
WNMU 1, MSU 0.

In set two, that same WNMU stepped on the floor, taking a commanding 11-3 lead. Midwestern tried to rally late, but an ace from Osorio gave WNMU the dub, 25-18.

For set number three, a determined Midwestern team took the court, with an early 11-7 advantage. WNMU would not get much going this set, losing 25-20.

The fourth set started with Midwestern storming out to a 5-1 lead. Both sets of Mustangs made things interesting, as Midwestern tied things up at 24s. But a resilient WNMU team hang on for a 29-27 set four win.

The Mustangs come back to Drag's Court on Oct. 28^th to host Texas Woman's (12:00 PM MT).
