LAS VEGAS, N.M. – The Western New Mexico University volleyball team took a short trip to. New Mexico Highlands to rekindle an old in-state rivalry. The Cowgirls finished off the Mustangs in four sets.
 
Leading the Mustangs on offense tonight was Naomi Kimble (Animas, NM/Animas HS) and Jazmyne Walker (Las Vegas, NV/Legacy HS) with 13 kills each. Kimble also had a .444 hitting percentage. Letícia Correa was yet again setting up her hitters all night, as she had 22 assists. Correa also lead the Mustangs with two aces.

Janey Cortez (El Paso, TX/East Lake HS) led the Mustangs on defense with 18 digs. Carley Deck (Tucson, AZ/Tanque Verde HS) became a wall at the net with three total blocks.
 
The Cowgirls took a quick five-point advantage early, leading 11-6 in set one. A late rally from the Mustangs would not be enough as they fell 25-20

In set two, a different Mustang team took the court, as they lead 9-2 quickly. The Cowgirls tried to make it interesting in the end, but ultimately fell to the Mustangs 25-21.

For set number three, the Cowgirls had a lead midway through 13-9 due to some great passing. The Cowgirls extended their lead to nine, 23-14 before a Mustang timeout. WNMU fell in set three 25-17

The fourth set started with the Cowgirls jumping out to a quick lead, 8-4. The Mustangs could never put together more than a few points in set four before losing 25-18.

The Mustangs come back to Drag's Court on Oct. 27^th to host Midwestern State (6:00 PM MT).
